On April 21, 2016, the WEN Yu Prize Foundation gave the 2015 WEN Yu prizes to 14 students at a ceremony held at the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM). Professor WEI Qiang from the Department of Management Science and Engineering of Tsinghua SEM, Professor GAO Feng from the Department of Finance who is also the Director of the Student Task Force of Tsinghua SEM, and all the prize winners participated in the ceremony emceed by TANG Yunduan, Deputy Director of the Resource Development Office.

On behalf of WEN Yu’s parents, Professor WEI Qiang briefed the prize winners on the WEN Yu Prize Foundation. All the prize winners introduced themselves and talked about how they felt after winning the prizes. Five of the winners were freshmen, and some were senior students. SHI Jiahao, an economics and finance major said that this was the most touching prize that he had won in his undergraduate years, and he would follow WEN Yu’s example in work and life and live up to the donors’ expectations. Professor WEI Qiang presented prize certificates to the winners and was taken a photo with them.

WEN Yu enrolled in Tsinghua SEM in 1992 and got a bachelor’s degree from the school. He once served as president of the students’ union of Tsinghua SEM. He had many talents and was an active participant in extra-curricular activities. He played the flute in Tsinghua’s military band, was the right back on his class’s soccer team, and won a championship in the pole vault at a sports meet of Tsinghua. He led a donation campaign to help students in need and actively provided services for the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled. In 2002, he was admitted to Harvard Business School as one of the top applicants. Sadly in 2009, he passed away because of an illness. To remember him, his parents set up the WEN Yu Prize Foundation with their savings in order to support Tsinghua SEM students and courage them to follow WEN Yu’s example by becoming a useful member of society.
