In the aftermath of the 18th CPC Congress, “Reform,” which is the most successful experience of China’s economic miracle, has become the major consensus in Chinese society. New leaders bring new concepts and ideas, giving people the expectation that a more pragmatic era is coming. Viewed from the current world perspective, economic recovery is facing many uncertainties. The “fiscal cliff” crisis in the U.S. is critical; the debt issue in the EU remains difficult to resolve; world trade is declining; and the overall global recovery has been hindered and delayed. In China, downward pressure on exports and economic growth has intensified, making it very difficult to pick up again. Transforming the structure of the economy, expanding domestic demand, and improving urbanization are urgent needs for China, which must construct a sound path of growth by preventing risks and holding the bottom line. The new leaders must link the past and present, and take historical responsibility for deepening reform and “opening up.”
The Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE) of Tsinghua University has invited leading global academic research institutions, firms, international organizations and influential academic elites, policy makers and entrepreneurs to discuss and analyze the major issues, and propose strategic choices and policy suggestions.
